What are the Engagement Ring Trends for 2024

Engagement Ring Trends for 2024

Last year I had the honour of my first commission, designing a long-time friend of mine, her wedding bands and engagement ring. She described her process of trying to find ‘something different’ and feeling like everything she saw had a kind of’ sameness’. They wanted something personal that symbolised their union. “Our decision to get married was joint one. No bended knee or declarations of love but a desire to become forever entwined in marriage”.

There is a mirage of choices couples have to consider before making that all important purchase. One of those considerations is most likely based around cost, lending to the style of engagement ring that makes the final cut. Whether you’re working with the “3-month salary” rule, or a more modest find, here are some trends you’ll see in 2024 and help you make that all important investment.

Lab-Grown Diamonds

Lab-grown diamonds continue to be a popular choice as they are often considered a more ethical and environmentally friendly choice. Lab-grown diamonds possess the same physical and chemical properties as mined diamonds. This means they share the same hardness, brilliance, and sparkle as natural diamonds. They are much more cost effective.

Unique Centre Stones

Couples choosing a gemstone rather than a diamond as their centre stone is on the rise in popularity. Becoming creative with their rings, including sapphires, rubies and other gemstones like aquamarine and morganite. Each gemstone carries its unique charm, symbolism, and colour, providing couples with a wide range of options to match their style and personality. Also gaining popularity as a less-expensive alternative to a traditional mined diamond.

Maximalist Designs

Maximalist designs are characterised by their bold and extravagant nature, and they are well-suited for individuals who appreciate a more dramatic and ornate style. If you're considering a maximalist engagement ring, you’ll probably be commissioning a skilled jeweller who specialises in a more intricate and custom designs. We’re talking extravagant centre stone, multiple halo layers, intricate band design, side stones and clusters, along with mixed metals. In short, the maximalist ring is a showstopper, with its bold design, multiple layers of detailing with a blend of classic and contemporary elements.

Vintage Styles

These rings are like works of art. Art Deco setting, they incorporate a mix of stones in different shapes and sizes which allow for more uniqueness in design. I can see a lot of vintage marquise making a big comeback. It was a trend in the 1980’s and is becoming popular again.
